Jan. 6th- 10th

Merry Christmas and Happy Epiphany!
I hope that you all had a much deserved break and a blessed Christmas! First of all, I would like to thank all of you for the wonderful Christmas presents and SCRIP.
I cannot wait to see your children as we get ready to enter into the second semester of our school year!

Literacy-

Getting back into the swing of things, we are going to be reading about Abraham Lincoln this week. We will understand that working together has changed history, involves many people and has made many positive changes. We will be learning 8 more amazing words! They are identify, participate, significant, scour, ingenious, aloft, architect and tinker. Our high-frequency words this week include: certainly, laugh, you're, either, second, great and worst. Children will also be able to identify proper nouns as well as count and segment phonemes.

Religion-

Following our Christmas season, we are going to be discussing the Holy Family. We will look at Joseph, Mary and Jesus all independently. We will conclude looking at the Holy Family by discussing how we can become more like the Holy Family.

*As a reminder, if you haven't filled out the paperwork for First Reconciliation and Communion, please make sure that fill that out and attend the workshops.*

Math-
We flew through our topic on two-digit addition with regrouping. We will now be moving into subtracting two-digit numbers. We will be subtracting one-digit numbers from two-digit numbers with and without regrouping.

IMPORTANT: In order to begin the transition to third grade, your child will need to bring in the math homework sheet that shows after the quiz. This is the reteaching, practice or enrichment sheet. They can either print it off or write it on a sheet of notebook paper. The homework will be due the following day.

Social Studies/Science-

In second grade, we really dive into the water cycle. We will be learning words like evaporation, condensation, precipitation. We will be learning a few songs, so the lyrics will be posted next week. We will be keeping a cloud journal over our study.

Spelling-
Contractions are our next spelling topic, the words this week are:
can't, I'm, she's, haven't, it's, didn't, aren't, hadn't, he's, who's, isn't, I'll.

I will be sending home a new spelling menu and words are posted on Spelling City.
