Jan. 27th- Jan. 31st

This week is Catholic School's week, we will have lots of activities going on, and we may not get to everything. Thank you so much for your support and I look forward to seeing you at tall of the events we have going on.

Literacy-

This week we will be answering the big question "How can we work together to meet people's needs?" Our main selection will be called "Scarcity."  We will try to understand that meeting the needs of people requires many decisions and requires the work of many people. We will be learning 8 more amazing words! They are consumers, producers, strand, lack, decision, fiber, extraordinary, and typical. Our high-frequency words this week include: above, ago, enough, toward, whole and word. Children will also be able to distinguish between singular and plural nouns.

Religion-

We are going to begin learning about Jesus as our teacher. We will be reviewing the parable of the Good Samaritan as well as understanding more deeply the call to love our neighbors.

Math-
We began our unit on place value on Friday. We are going to continue working with two-digit subtraction. Some of the students are struggling with two-digit subtraction, so please continue working with them on two-digit subtraction with regrouping. We will continue working on this in class, but extra support at home will reinforce the concepts.

Social Studies/Science-

Our unit on the water cycle will be coming to a close on Tuesday. We will begin our unit on Insects. There will be a project involved with this unit. Please be looking for a rubric to come home as your child will need your help.

Spelling-

R-controlled vowels, ir, er, and ur are our next spelling topic, the words this week are:
person, nurse, dirt, turn, birth, serve, curb, curl, skirt, purse, turtle and her.
