Jan. 13th- Jan. 17th

We are off an running with the semester. I know that I am excited to have the kids back. It has been such a joy to see how they have grown in just two short weeks!
Literacy-

We are going to continue our study of Abraham Lincoln. We will understand that working together has changed history, involves many people and has made many positive changes. We will be learning 8 more amazing words! They are identify, participate, significant, scour, ingenious, aloft, architect and tinker. Our high-frequency words this week include: certainly, laugh, you're, either, second, great and worst. Children will also be able to identify proper nouns as well as count and segment phonemes.

Religion-

We finished our unit on the Holy Family and we are now moving into studying about good news that Jesus brings us all. We will be looking at two parables, the parable of the mustard seed and the parable of the buried treasure.

Math-
This week we are again working through subtracting two-two digit numbers. Even though it is a difficult concept, your kiddos seem to be grasping the concept of regrouping (borrowing) 1 ten into 10 ones. Challenge them this week with some two or three digit subtracting with and without regrouping.

IMPORTANT:  Please remember to send your child in with their homework sheet. There have been a number of students that haven't brought in their homework. They can either print it off or write it on a sheet of notebook paper.

Social Studies/Science-

In second grade, we really dive into the water cycle. We will be learning words like evaporation, condensation, precipitation. We will be learning a few songs, so the lyrics will be posted next week. We will be keeping a cloud journal over our study.

Spelling-
Contractions are our next spelling topic, the words this week are:
can't, I'm, she's, haven't, it's, didn't, aren't, hadn't, he's, who's, isn't, I'll.

Reminders-

Each day planners come home with the homework for the evening. Please make sure that homework is being completed each night.

School mass is on Wednesday at 1:45, please wear mass uniforms.
