Jan. 20th-24th

Literacy-

This week and next we will be answering the big question "How can we work together to meet people's needs?" Our main selection will be called "Scarcity."  We will try to understand that meeting the needs of people requires many decisions and requires the work of many people. We will be learning 8 more amazing words! They are consumers, producers, strand, lack, decision, fiber, extraordinary, and typical. Our high-frequency words this week include: above, ago, enough, toward, whole and word. Children will also be able to distinguish between singular and plural nouns.

Religion-

This week we will be looking at two parables, the parable of the mustard seed and the parable of the buried treasure. After reviewing the unit we will be talking about Jesus as our teacher by looking at the parable of the Good Samaritan.

Math-
We have one more lesson in topic 9 which covers two-digit subtraction. We will be taking an assessment on topic 9 and then opening topic 10. Topic 10 will be looking at place value up to 1,000.

IMPORTANT:  Please remember to send your child in with their homework sheet. There have been a number of students that haven't brought in their homework. They can either print it off or write it on a sheet of notebook paper.

Social Studies/Science-

This we will continue with our unit on the water cycle. We will be looking at clouds and how they are formed. We will be also asking the question "What is precipitation?"
Your kids learned a new song this past week. It goes to the tune "She'll Be Coming Around the Mountain"

Water travels in a cycle, yes it does.

Water travels in a cycle, yes it does.

It goes up as evaporation,

forms clouds as condensation,
and comes down as precipitation,
yes it does.

Spelling-

R-controlled vowels, ir, er, and ur are our next spelling topic, the words this week are:
person, nurse, dirt, turn, birth, serve, curb, curl, skirt, purse, turtle and her.
