Dear families!
Happy third week of Advent! So excited for this week!
Have a wonderful Christmas break and I look forward to seeing you at the beginning of the new year!
Here is what we are looking to accomplish this week in second grade:
Literacy-
Knowing that this is the week before Christmas, your kiddos are so excited! We are doing a lot in literacy this week. We will be writing an opinion paper and a letter. We will also be identifying nouns and adjectives. We will also be reading many Christmas stories.
Religion-
It was absolutely amazing seeing your children receiving their First Reconciliation. There was palpable joy among the class!
In religion this week, we are going to be talking about the coming of Christ and his birth.
Math-
We will be continuing with two two-digit addition! We will finish this unit and test on it before the end of the semester. When we come back, we will begin unit 9 which will cover two digit subtraction including regrouping.
IMPORTANT: In order to begin the transition to third grade, after Christmas Break, your child will need to bring in the math homework sheet that shows after the quiz. They can either print it off or write it on a sheet of notebook paper.
Social Studies/Science-
Unfortunately, we won't be starting the water cycle until the beginning of the new year.
Your kids did such an amazing job with the Ancient Greece unit! It was so wonderful to see their excitement in learning about mythology and history!
Spelling-
We will not be starting a new literacy unit and with the shorter week, there will be no spelling test this week.
Reminders-
Advent Angel presents will be due at the Christmas party on December 20th.

December 9th- 13th
Dear families!
Happy Second week of Advent!
This week will look very similar to last week because we didn't accomplish much with the early release and snow days.
Here is what we are looking to accomplish this week in second grade:
Literacy-
The question of the week is "How can we help each other in dangerous situations?" We are beginning a new unit and we will be talking about ways that we can work together.
We will continue to build our oral vocabulary with these 8 AMAZING words- courageous, rescue, instinct, blustery, hazard, avalanche, skittish, and fast-paced
Students will be determining cause and effect with different situations
We will be spelling r-controlled words- ar, or, ore, oar
We will review common nouns as well as reviewing sentences.
We will also be covering the letter J and j in handwriting this week.
Religion-
The school wide reconciliation service is on December 11th. Father Joe came to discuss reconciliation last week. We are also going to be discussing confession and the order of the sacrament. Your child should have the Act of Contrition memorized by Monday. We will receive the sacrament at 10am on Wednesday, we will then have a celebration in the afternoon before mass.
Math-
We will be working through two two-digit addition! I am extremely excited to help your kiddos learn this skill! (Although, we may have covered part of this in previous lessons :) )
This website is extremely helpful and has great games. Click here to access it.
Here is another AMAZING math website!
