Nov. 18th- Nov. 22nd

Literacy- 

The question of the week is "What can we learn from exploring new places and things?" We will be reviewing the past five units and the information covered.

We will review our amazing words- investigate  rural, urban, downy, perch, founders, muttered, unanimous, ascend, descend, orbit, universe, enormous  journey, launch, meteorite, tranquil, wildlife, fledglings, secure  detective, fascinating, slimy, arid, landform, precipitation, dunes, ledge, haven, extinct, forbidding, delicate, stun, exhibit, resist, sturdy, satisfaction, inquire and genius
We will also review our high frequency words- beautiful, country, friend, front, someone, somewhere, everywhere, live, machines, move, woman, work, world, bear, build, couldn't, father, love, mother, straight, animals, early, eyes, full, warm, water, gone, learn, often, pieces, though, together, very
Students will be reviewing alphabetizing and synonyms
We will be reviewing short vowels, consonant blends, inflected endings and consonant diagraphs

Your children this week will also be reviewing sentences, identifying subjects, predicates and determining if a sentences is declarative, interrogative, exclamatory or imperative.

We will also be covering the letter J and j in handwriting this week.

Religion-

     With our reconciliation service just around the corner we are going to begin talking about forgiveness and how God calls us to Him. We will be discussing sin and how we ask for forgiveness and and are given it freely.

According to the workshop schedule for reconciliation, the last workshop is on December 15th. If your child is receiving the sacrament of reconciliation through Corpus Christi, they will miss the last workshop. In lieu of the workshop, Mrs. Ortiz and I have invited Fr. Joe to come and talk to each of our classes about the same thing that would be presented in the workshop.The school wide reconciliation service will be on December 11th. 
Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 1:45pm. 

Math-
  We are now moving into mental subtraction. We will be discussing subtracting tens, finding parts of 100, subtracting on a hundred chart and subtracting multiples of 100.

Please continue to have your child practice with tens and ones. This website is extremely helpful and has great games. Click here to access it.

Social Studies-
We will continuing to explore Ancient Greece. You student will discover how life in Ancient Greece would be different than life today. They will gain understanding of important people such as Socrates and Alexander the Great during their trip back in time.
Your students are LOVING learning about Ancient Greece (at least from what I am seeing in class) I would love to continue this unit, however after Thanksgiving we will be moving onto the water cycle. 

I will be showing this website to your kiddos, but feel free to continue your exploration of Ancient Greece here

Spelling-



We are reviewing all of the phonics units from the past five units. We will be reviewing all of the spelling words. Please use the lists from Spelling City to review our words.

Reminders-


I will be inputting grades throughout the week. I apologize for not getting them in the weekend, there was a lot we accomplished this past week!

Nov. 11th- Nov.

Literacy-

The question of the week is "What does exploration help us find answers?" Students will understand that we can explore questions by exploring new places, reading books and asking others for help. We will be reading a story called "The Strongest One."

We will learn 8 more amazing words that will build oral vocabulary- delicate, stun, exhibit, resist, sturdy, satisfaction, inquire and genius
We will also be able to recognize and use our high frequency words-gone, learn, often, pieces, though, together, very
Our selection vocabulary this week is- narrative, relatives, gnaws, dangerous.
Students are also going to continue working with synonyms.
Our focus this week in phonics will include consonant blends including, tch, wh, th, sh, ch

Your children this week will also be to identify imperative and exclamatory sentences.

We will also be covering the letter i in handwriting this week.

Religion-

     Advent is just around the corner and we are going to be studying Advent, the different symbols and traditions associated with it. We are also going to focus the next few weeks on reconciliation. Why we confess and how reconciliation cleanses our souls.
The school wide reconciliation service will be on December 11th.

Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 1:45pm.

Math-
  We are going to continue working with Topic 6 and mental addition. This week we will be completeing the unit with adding multiples of ten and problem solving. The students will also be taking  test on the topic.

Social Studies-
We will continuing to explore Ancient Greece. You student will discover how life in Ancient Greece would be different than life today. They will gain understanding of important people such as Socrates and Alexander the Great during their trip back in time.

We are focusing on consonant digraphs this week, so our spelling words will be- that, wish, patch, when, what, math, them, shape, whale, itch, chsae, bunch

Reminders-


There will be a school wide Veterans Day program Monday at 1:40pm in the gym.

If you are looking to volunteer in the classroom, I would love to have you. Centers are being run from 9am-10am most Tuesdays and Thursdays ad some Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. If you are not able to come in at that time, I am looking for help with hole punching, pulling apart and making books or copies. Please let me know if you are interested in helping and when you would be available.

This week we will continue learning about the Ten Commandments by learning how we were given them. We will also reflect on how we can live them out in our own lives. We will then continue by learning ways in which we love God, including worship through mass and prayer.

The goal for topic 6 is learning about mental addition. We will be adding tens, ones, as well as adding on a hundred number chart.
