Parents! I am trying out a new format, please let me know what you think! If there is anything else you would like to see on the blog, please let me know, I am open to comments and suggestions!
Literacy-
Our question of the week this week is "What can we learn by exploring nature?" The main selection is "Henry and Mudge and the Starry Night" Students will understand that exploring nature includes the skies and space, water, forests and our neighborhoods. We will continue building our oral vocabulary with the words, galaxy, tranquil, wildlife, fledglings secure, detective, fascinating and slimy. We will also be able to recognize and use our high frequency words- bear, father, straight, build, love, couldn't, mother and our selection vocabulary- drooled, lanterns, shivered, snuggled.
Our focus this week in phonics will include consonant blends and review of long vowels VCe and short vowels. We will also continue reading for fluency as well as build comprehension.
Your children this week will also be identify predicates of a sentence and writing realistic non-fiction.
Religion-
This week, we are going to be finishing our unit on God's Servants, but learning about David and how he became king of Israel. We will then begin to learn about the Ten Commandments by learning how we were given them. We will also reflect on how we can live them out in our own lives.

Students will begin to build a foundation for multiplication this week by solving repeated addition problems. Students will also build arrays and problem solve number stories.
Social Studies-
We are going to continue our study of China by locating China on a map, and identifying the Yellow River and Great Wall of China, as well as locating Beijing, the capital city. We will also study the culture and the impact that it has had on the world. We will conclude our study by taking a trip to India and studying Mother Teresa and her work with the people of India.

Parent teacher conferences are coming up next week, please look out for the appointment confirmation sheet and send those back to me! I look forward to meeting with all of you!
Friday is a Spirit Day- spirit shirts and uniform bottoms!
Have a blessed week!
